On the afternoon of April 16, 2025, a lecture on “Dancing with Stress - Mental Quality and Emotion Management” was held by the Level 2 Psychological Workstation of CUFE Business School. The lecture was held in Bishop 217. Associate Professor Yuan Yuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Psychology, School of Social and Psychological Sciences, Central University of Finance and Economics, was the guest speaker, and more than 90 teachers and students of the School of Business were present to participate in the activity. The lecture was hosted by Yang Zhongying, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Business School.

Prof. Yuan Yuan took the correlation between sleep quality and psychological stress as the starting point, pointing out that insomnia and early waking up are often related to the imbalance of emotional management, and gave targeted suggestions for improvement. The lecture focused on “psychological quality”, “the nature of emotions” and “resolution strategies”. She suggested that “faith, love, knowledge and action” are the core psychological qualities of life, of which “faith” is like the earth carrying a sense of security, the early lack of which is likely to cause anxiety; “love” nourishes interpersonal connections, the lack of which leads to loneliness; and “love” nourishes interpersonal connections, the lack of which leads to loneliness. Love nourishes interpersonal connections, but lack of which leads to loneliness; knowledge transcends utilitarianism and maintains rationality and creativity; and action empowers action, but lack of which can easily lead to empty dreams and weaken the sense of efficacy.

Regarding emotion management, Prof. Yuan Yuan emphasized that there is no right or wrong emotion, but we need to be alert to the fact that long-term suppression can be transformed into physical diseases. She analyzed the symbolic connection between physical symptoms and emotions in the context of health psychology, and emphasized that positive self-suggestion can relieve physical and mental stress. To resolve negative emotions, Prof. Yuan suggests constructive expression, emotional restoration and nine practical techniques, including exercise catharsis, humor, belly breathing and color therapy.

The lecture pointed out that the cultivation of psychological qualities is a lifelong issue, and teachers and students need to build a positive spiritual home based on “faith, love, knowledge and action”. Teachers and students expressed that the lecture was a combination of academic depth and life wisdom, and provided scientific guidance for coping with stress. They deeply realized that stress is not the enemy, and only by facing it and managing it scientifically can they dance with it and achieve a more resilient and abundant life.
